Oh, and Gangstas will soon become a thing of the past. Out of those alignment groups, though you did make a category mistake, I would argue that only Metalheads have been around long enough to have been said to have 'survived'.

From my observations of the various subcultures, only Heavy Metal has enough of a centralized, unified idea that appeals the listener to make it survive the test of time. Goth has this as well, but to a much lesser extent. You often get people referring to Metal as a religion, which is an apt attribution. Do Emo kids swear loyalty to 'Emo-ness'? Is there a single notion or memetic construct in Hip-Hop that all the Gangstas be true nigs for lyfe for, yo? What of Grunge, what of Pop or Soft Rock? Industrial? No, of course not. Only Metalheads see the world in terms of METALNESS. Metal has this overarching gestalt essence that is greater than just loyalty to a band, or a group of bands. Its an unswerving devotion to a SOUND, a corresponding way of thinking, and the rituals thereof.
You think you'll see any 50 year old Emos? Any septuagenarian gangstas? Gentrified grungers?
Never. But you do get and will get Heavy Metal Grandparents, passing on the torch.
