I recently reread a bunch of his stories over again. The one about Charles Dexter Ward was quite good.

The Case of Charles Dexter Ward was his best work by far, and his best short story was The Terrible Old Man.

Hmmm...I haven't read The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.

Slight summary?

Charles Dexter Ward was about a guy investigating the life of one of his infamous ancestors. Turns out the ancestor was a necromancer that built vast catacombs beneath his house. He bought hundreds of slaves to experiment on and stole corpses to bring back to life.

There is much more to the story, I thought it was one of his more detailed and well-finished works. So many of Lovecraft's stories feel incomplete.

Both good stories. I own all of Lovecrafts work.
The Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath is excellent and so is the Cat's of Ulthar.
