This is for everyone out there who plays the bass guitar. Yes, this is partially in response to the drummer's topic, except that being about bass simply makes it 275% cooler. Talk about anything concerning basses, playing the bass, bands with good bass, or marijuana.

I'm more of a slap-bassist since it is way funkier. I also spend most of my time working on making the longest bass solo ever made and then putting it on an hour long CD. I'm only at about five minutes which my drummer thinks is awesome and my guitarist loathes.

Slap is a great style to perfect, an idea is also incorporating loads of techniques into one song still keeping the rhythm and the key.
Tapping, Harmonics and double stops sound very good too.

I still can't slap and pluck very quickly, so my solos are generally a little slower but funky.

I didn't know you played bass Jewlius.

I love playing bass.  If you get the right sound/feel, there's something primal yet therapeutic about it.  I like hiking up the distortion for a really Doomy tone...

That's the great thing about bass, it's not all technical and exact like a guitar, it's more basic, let's you play with some fuckin' rhythm.

I think that bassists who use pics and even the ones that don't should play chords and not just ride the root note of what the guitarist is playing. I see so many do this especially in metal where the bass in alot of songs are just inaudible. Alex Webster is my favorite metal bassist. And I think Peter Steele is a good MELODIC bassist.

Okay, making an hour long bass-solo is taking much longer than I thought...as it turns out an hour is a long fucking time to be playing one song, but I've got almost twenty minutes done. Whenever I get my digital camera back I'll take a video and put it up on youtube.

I've been thinking about it, Claypool is a fucking monster on the bass, though I want this to be truly epic. I want people that hear it to murder anyone who speaks during it because they wish to hear every single note.
